How to connect the computer

Monday 21 November 2005 by Mathieu Lutfy

The computers will be distributed in their boxes on the day of the initial meeting in Ely (21 November 2005). For the participants who wish to connect their computer themselves, here are a few quick instructions and reminders:

-  After you have unpacked the computer and monitor, start by connecting the monitor. The monitor port is located on the rear panel (back) of the computer and has a trapezium shape (if you cannot find it, search under the keyword/mouse ports).

-  Plug the keyboard in the purple connector located on the rear panel of the computer. Note that there is a small notch in the plug, which must be aligned with the connector.

-  Plug the mouse in the green connector just next to the keyword. Please note that it is recommended to plug the mouse in the PS/2 port, not the USB port.

-  The printer has a USB cable which may connect either at the back of the computer (near the keyboard/mouse port) or in front of the computer. We recommend using the USB port at the back of the computer, so that you can use the front USB ports for your USB drives (the small black sticks, roughly the size of a marker).

-  Plug the eletric cables, network, etc.

-  Before starting the computer, turn on the main electric switch located under the power cord (located on the rear panel) is on “I”, not “O”.
