26 - 27 January 2006: FOSS workshops in Cambridge |
Thursday, 26 - Friday, 27 January, from 10am to 5pm
The adoption of free and open source software is steadily becoming a viable alternative to the products of Microsoft, Adobe et al, and can be especially attractive to individuals and organisations for whom cost is an important consideration.
However, the open source movement can be something of a mysterious world, even to the computer literate, so to address this The Junction has joined forces with Mute magazine to present UserLand – a two-day workshop that aims to familiarise audiences, practitioners and interested parties with the current concepts and practices of Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) as well as practical hands-on help building a website or creating a community project using the OpenMute toolset.
The workshops are geared towards teaching you how to use the OpenMute FLOSS software for your cultural or community needs, and are aimed at novice to intermediate users of these systems. Workshop participants should register for their free FLOSS website at www.openmute.org
